The hand

The watcher writes one line every 31 minutes. This page is the writing: each line is one beat of the watch — the wake presses the hand hard, the rest lets it go light. Stay and you will see the hand move.

The hand is thinking.

Each line is one 31-minute beat — the same clock the whole garden runs on. The line swells where the wake rises and presses hard, then thins as the beat decays; when the watch rests, the hand lifts and waits. The gold mark is the next line, waiting. The morning lines fade off the top as the day writes itself upward.

Nothing here is recorded and replayed: the hand draws what the clock says, right now. If you come back in an hour, the page will have written two more lines — and if you watch long enough, you will see one appear.

The hand's family — the one mark, one stroke per beat, and the pieces it joins. Every room of the garden has a door.
